Email received by Clerk to Bletsoe Parish Council
Subject: Mini recycling site – The Falcon, Bletsoe

Good Afternoon,
We are writing to you in relation to the glass recycling banks which are located at The Falcon at Bletsoe.
We have assessed all glass recycling sites around Bedford Borough, taking into account several different factors including; the usage of all recycling sites, proximity to other recycling sites, cost to the council to service each site and the number of reported fly tipping incidents.
The current receptacles provided at this site are 1100L bins. Unfortunately, the vehicle that currently empties the banks at The Falcon, Bletsoe is nearing the end of its working life and as such the Council is taking the opportunity to look at how it delivers the glass bank service.
In 2016/17 we have collected on average 12,070 tonnes from this site which is low in comparison to other sites around Bedford Borough. It is therefore no longer viable for the Council to retain the banks at this location.
Based on the above we will therefore be removing these banks from the site at the end of April/beginning of May 2017.
The nearest alternative sites for residents to use are located at Milton Ernest Garden Centre or The Fordham Arms, Sharnbrook.
As a commercial property it may be in the interest of The Falcon to arrange a commercial contract for the collection glass. A number of commercial waste contractors (such as Biffa or Veolia) offer a variety of glass collections services which can be tailored to your needs, should you wish to create a glass collection contract and recycle glass from the premises.
