The Friends of St Mary’s with the Parochial Church Council of St Mary’s have embarked on the major restoration programme necessary to reopen the bricked-up chancel of our village church.

Over forty years ago, the water damage to the chancel meant it was taken out of use and shut off. In the intervening period, much work on the church has been carried out to the tune of over £100,000 and now the ‘big project’ can start.

We need to raise over £250,000 to bring the Old Chancel and Vestry back to life which will include the provision of a toilet and kitchen. This will make the whole church building much more useable for church services & events plus it will provide a new space for small events by church and community groups.

This is an enormous project and grants for much of the work will be needed. Applications have started and we are backing these up with an appeal to villagers and friends to show significant local support by raising around £70,000 over the coming months. We are pleased to say that we are well underway with the fundraising through the Friends, the Fete, donations, grants and our appeal but we need everyone to contribute at whatever level they feel is appropriate.  An appeal brochure will soon be in your hands and a copy can be read here.  If you have any questions then don’t hesitate to contact the Appeal Team at
